Sanjay Kumar’s Tango journey started in early 90s. He absorbed various styles under great Tango maestros in Buenos Aires. To name a few: Carlos Gavito, Marcela Duran, Ricardo Vidort, Miriam Pincen, Oscar Casas & Mary Ann, Ana Miguel, Orlando Paiva, Osvaldo & Coca, Jorge Dispari, Enriqueta Kleinman, Maria Plazaola, Oswaldo Natucci, and Susana Miller for more than 15 years. Under their guidance, Sanjay learned the intricacy, repertoire as well as thoughts of these great gurus.
Well-versed in both Milonguero and Salon style, Sanjay follows the original tradition of the Tango dance like those in the milonga of Buenos Aires. He teaches with energy and humor, emphasizes concepts, specializes in improvisation, always interprets the music and keeps the character of different orchestras. He connects the rhythm, tempo, and musicality, as well as the dynamics and cadencia of the dance. One major focus is how to dance fluidly in the crowded milonga.
After exploring Tango for over 20 years, Sanjay’s knowledge and technique seamlessly transmitted into Tango teaching. He teaches regular weekly private and group classes in Dallas/Fort Worth area and Ann Arbor, Michigan. He also teaches on individual basis in Chicago and Tempe, AZ. Moreover, he teaches occasionally overseas in Santiago, Chile; Osaka, Japan; and Xiamen, China.
Sanjay currently runs a “Milonga El Adios” monthly in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex area, which is known for its classic music, exquisite dance floor, and the presence of milongueros.
